Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by bus

We booked a bus to Siem Reap from our guesthouse for $5US/person. We got picked up and taken to GST Bus station. This station had 2 listed prices for Siem Reap: 25,000 riel ($6US and change) and 17,000 riel ($4US and change), so I guess $5 was not too bad. We left around 8:30am and our bus ride took a total of 6.5hrs including 2 breaks and numerous stops for on and off passengers. We got dropped off on the far east side of National Highway 6. GST bus station is in the south side of Psar Chooi and where we got dropped off was still about 3 km away. At least 6 drivers there swarmed us with their guesthouse sign cards when we got off the bus. One of them even attempted to snatch my backpack so I would be obliged to follow him. We got irritated so we moshed our way outta there and kept walking far far away. After realizing how far we were still from our guidebook-picked guesthouse, we hired a Tuk-Tuk. The driver asked for $4 for the ride but in the end we bargained it down to 3,000 riel ($0.75). Clearly, they get commission from the guesthouses when they bring in customers. Unfortunately, Jasmine Lodge raised their prices, so we had to go somewhere else. Our Tuk Tuk driver wasn't happy about it.
No, this is not the bus we took.
